Phegley Homers Twice as IU Wins 14-4

Josh Phegley [photo courtesy of Illinois Baseball Report Photo Gallery] homered twice and drove in 5 as the Hoosiers took Game 1 of a 3-game set with #26 Illinois 14-4 to move to 2-1 in Big Ten play. The junior catcher also added a double and 2 walks and scored 4 times as he led the way at the plate for the Hoosiers. On the evening, IU banged out 14 hits, 7 of which were for extra bases. Jerrud Sabourin, Tyler Rogers, Alex Dickerson, and Michael Earley had 2 hits apiece, and both Dickerson and Earley drove in 2.

On the mound, freshman Blake Monar picked up his third win of the season as he threw 7 strong innings, giving up 3 runs and striking out 7. After giving up 2 runs in the first, Monar really found a groove and pitched brilliantly the rest of the way. He had his curveball working and fooled the Illini batsmen on a number of occasions.

The win is the fourth in a row for IU and moves the team's record to 11-15 on the season. Tomorrow the Hoosiers will square off against the Illini in a doubleheader with game 1 slated to start at 1pm. Eric Arnett will be on the mound for the Hoosiers in game 1 and will be looking to improve his record to 6-1. Matt Bashore will follow him in game 2 and look to build off his last outing and pick up his second win of the season. Hopefully tomorrow will be more of the same for IU. Go Hoosiers!

  2. Nice link to their photos. Maybe we could get some student photography help during our home games and get some additional photos in the IU galleries!

  4. Wow! More photos just like H-mama asked for. This is an extremely responsive blog. Well done! So, if we all ask for ice cream, we'll get that, also?

Look, IU BTP, you've done some great work on this site. Having worked a bit on my own sites trying to market my kids, I know how much work goes into it. It's been up to date, beautifully designed, innovative (the Illini Q&A), and well-researched. My neighbor and I are flying out there for the games 17-22 April. Look us up. We owe you a coke and a dog!
