Quick Hits: Ball State, Arnett, Weekend Promotions

Ball State - Game Canceled
The Hoosiers will travel to Muncie tomorrow afternoon for a 3PM showdown with the Cardinals of Ball State. The Cardinals are 15-15 overall and 5-5 in the MAC after a weekend sweep by conference foe Bowling Green. Ball State defeated IU 5-4 earlier this year on the strength of a walk-off homerun after falling behind 4-0 early in the game. While Ball State is obviously a team the Hoosiers need to defeat, it should be noted that the Cardinals beat Purdue 17-8 in a midweek game last week and took Louisville (who crushed IU 15-1 last week) to extra innings the week prior to that. Right-hander Joey O'Gara (1-2, 7.89 ERA, 13K, 11BB) will be on the mound for the Hoosiers, while right-hander Adam Quinn (2-2, 6.23 ERA, 14K, 8BB) will get the nod for the Cardinals (see here for a more detailed breakdown of the match-up). Look for a number of pitchers to get some work in for IU tomorrow. This is a game IU should win, so let's hope they get the job done! Go Hoosiers!

Arnett is Big Ten Pitcher of the Week
Congrats to Eric Arnett on being selected Big Ten co-Pitcher of the Week after turning in his third straight complete game and striking out 11 against Iowa this past weekend. Arnett leads the Big Ten in wins (7), ERA (2.00), and innings (63.0) and is fourth in strikeouts (63). Arnett shared the award with Ohio State's Alex Wimmers. Nicely done Eric!

Weekend Baseball Promotions
Come on out to Sembower Field this weekend and watch IU take on Penn State in another conference tilt. The Hoosiers will take on the Nittany Lions on Friday at 3 and Saturday and Sunday at 1. In addition to all IU baseball games being free admission, there will be a number of promotions taking place in conjunction with the games this weekend, including a free t-shirt to the first 250 fans on Sunday. Follow this link for all the details. Go Hoosiers!

  1. OK - this has nothing to do with the Hoosiers but I have to share what I thought was a humorous comment made by University of New Orleans radio announcer tonight during the final out of the broadcast in their game vs LSU at LSU.

Top of the 9th 2 out - 2 on (tying runs) - one of UNO's top hitters at the plate - announcer says he checked his swing for ball 2 - then he goes nuts as the homeplate ump rules it a swing & game ending 3rd strike.

Then the announcer said "Williams (the ump) obviously has a date tonight - and I hope she's ugly!"

    Go Hoosiers!
