Alex Herz, from Boulder Colorado, is the latest member of the 2009 Hoosier baseball recruiting class. In what is not necessarily a baseball hotbed of talent in Colorado, he went 2-1 with a 2.32 ERA and a .216 batting average against. At 6'7", a former team MVP, and a multiple sport athlete, it will be interesting to watch his progress in a Hoosier uniform.
Herz joins a 2009 class that includes Michael Basil (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier), Jonny Hoffman (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino), Micah Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind./Park Tudor), Jerry Kleman (Mesa, Ariz./Desert Ridge), Trace Knoblauch (Houston, Texas/Bellaire) and Mike McKinley (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley. I would look for many (if not all) of these guys to compete for starting positions and innings on the mound right away as all seem very talented, and we will have at least 4 starters to replace as well as 2 very talented pitchers.

I hope there is another 6'7" righty on the IU roster next year!
ReplyDeleteI agree that the freshman definitely will be able to fight for positions right away. I hope they are as good as advertised. I was happy with freshman Dickerson, Monar, and Gonzalez this year, so hopefully at least 3 of the new guys will make me as happy as those 3 did.
