  1. Big question for this year...do you use Squires as closer where he has been so good or do you move him to starting rotation where we lost so much from last year? If he says in pen, we are left with Carr with 5.62 ERA, Igel with 6.46 ERA, Leininger with 9.91 ERA, Gorham with 10.12 ERA, Hoff with 13.73 ERA, Leiendecker with 18.00 ERA, or the incoming freshmen to fill the starting roles.

  2. If E Wilson and Rogers end up our middle infielders we could be in trouble offensively since they have a .139 and .160 summer batting averages. I hope the metal bats add at least .200 points to each of those or the freshman will need to step in.

  3. Kyle Leiendecker .360 with wood that should help us next year!!!

  4. I'd like to see Leiendecker back on the mound, but I'll take his bat if it's as good as it has been in his summer league.

Any word on Matt Carr and his late season injury?

  5. I don't know for sure on Carr, but what I heard isn't good. Same with Webber. Plus, if you are voting for Gonzalez as the 'other' on the poll for third baseman, I'm 99.9% sure he's not going to be a Hoosier this year.

  6. Why isn't Gonzalez coming back? And what about Webber?

  7. Webber isn't coming back this season because of arm problems...Gonzalez isn't coming back because of money issues...

  8. Wow, I did not hear about those two. Anyone else not coming back?

  9. I think some people need to 'change their vote' on the poll for 3B. I'm guess the people that voted for other was either Gonzalez or Webber and neither is going to be here. Looks like a spot for a freshman to step in. Or you could put Lyon at C and Earley at 3B. I don't really know of anyone else that could play third.

  10. How do you guys get your info? I tried to google Gonzalez and Webber and can't find any info on them leaving. Just curious how you find out these things, is there a website or something that you found with updates? Thanks.

  11. The Gonzalez transfer info was circulating around the field about halfway through the season last year.

  12. Info can be gathered by word of mouth... its too bad Gonzalez and Webber can't come back, but they helped the Hoosiers win a championship so it was worthwhile. hopefully we have some incoming freshman that can fill the position. Since Johnson is expected to take Crawfords spot in center, maybe Earley can step in and play 3rd... there are lots of possibilities and the season doesn't start till spring. There is plenty of time to decide so i'm sure it will be fine in the end. We had a lot of big losses last year, but winning the Big Ten tournament should definitely help with recruiting...

  13. It looks like coach Smith and his staff have really done a wonderful job with recruiting since coming to IU. It looks like another solid class coming in from around the country. I bet a lot of those freshman step in right away and get a lot of playing time. I think it will be a little bit of rebuilding year, but the future sure looks bright.

  14. Who says "Johnson is expected to take Crawfords spot in center"? Lambert pushed for PT in center late in the season and I would be VERY surprised not to see him there and batting leadoff for the hoosers?

P.S. There is several "anonymous" people writing here. If you go to name/url you can write in a name to make this less confusing to read.

  15. We all know about Johnson, but does anyone else know anything else about the out of state recruits?

  16. Knoblauch was one of the 40 selected to allstar game in the huge state of texas. His switchhitting ability and 6'4", 215 lb size could be nice in the lineup.

Hoffman and McKinley should both get big innings but our lack overall piching depth will almost force them both into games. Herz is a wildcard with his 6'7" frame. I'm thinking he could delevep into a decent closer this year if the coaching staff can work with his body and get the velocity up.

  17. BHP,
Formerly NewHoosierFan here. Some of you anonymous newcomers are welcome to the callsign!! Been on vacation for awhile. Can you repost all of the voting results to date or is that too difficult?!
    Thanks.
    GO HOOSIERS

  18. BHP.. do you know if anyone else is not coming back besides Webber and Gonzales? And what have you heard about those two - where are they going to go ect.. Just wondering if you heard anything new.

  19. Rumor has it that Vince will try to get onto one of the Orange County Teams (e.g., UC Irvine). No word on Cody as I believe his not returning is due to the injury which requires further attention. We all wish him luck, a speedy recovery, and more years of baseball in the future!!

    Perhaps BHP knows more?!

  20. I am trying to receive confirmation on the transfers before officially posting anything, but I will hopefully have information regarding transfers/injuries in the near future.

Unfortunately, I did not keep the official percentages of each poll, but I believe all were surprisingly selected in fairly dominating fashion (with the exception of 3B with the uncertainty of transfers).

  21. yea, but I'm still trying to figure out why my kid isn't starting at shortstop. Ever since Little League it's always the same lame excuse...something about "he throws left handed..." :)

Well, Hoosier Fans, last year there was probably only one solidified starting spot on the roster at catcher. So, whatever the polls and voting, it eventually comes down to whoever can hit, field, and throw has a decent shot at playing time!! And never forget that you're only as good as your last game, so everyone should--freshman through upperclassmen--be ready because sooner or later your number is going to get called!!

    GO HOOSIERS!!!

  22. Any word on Ethan Wilson's health? Does anyone know if he's back to 100%?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I thought Ethan Wilson should have been back to 100% by now.

I don't think a single Hoosier should feel confident about having a starting spot because regardless of graduation/draft, we still have some good players and hope to have a good crop of freshman. If there is an Alex Dickerson, Blake Monar, Vince Gonzalez, Cody Webber, or even Matt Igel in this year's recruiting class, we should feel good about our depth. Coach Smith continues to show us he can recruit so I hope this year is no different.

  24. For the avid IU sports fan it is exciting that our Hoosiers won a Big Ten title, but after reading post it doesn't sound like the fans on here understand the game. Yes IU has a shortage of pitchers after such a great draft, but that is the nature of the game, especially when college teams are very good. This is where Coach Smith and his staff will shine, because they have the depth at positions, thru good recruiting. Scratch the fan lineup and start over, unless we want the Hoosiers to struggle.
