Game 3: Toreros - 9, Hoosiers - 4

IU dropped is third game in two days with a 9-4 loss to San Diego in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. Alex Dickerson and Dylan Swift tallied 2 hits apiece, and Swift drove in 2 of IU's 4 runs for the game. On the mound, it was the third consecutive poor start for a Hoosier hurler as freshman Jonny Hoffman lasted 1.1 innings and yielded 7 runs on 6 hits. The bright spot in the loss was without a doubt the performance of Drew Leininger. The sophomore left-hander relieved Hoffman and threw 5.2 innings of scoreless baseball, striking out 4 and walking none in the process.

Here's the box score.

Let's hope for a better all-around effort by the Hoosiers tomorrow in the series finale. It would be great to see the guys pick up a victory and not return to Bloomington empty-handed. First pitch is slated for 1pm ET. Go Hoosiers!

  1. Get swift some more ABs. and, leininger was awesome. I'd be surprised if we didn't see him as a weekend started next weekend.

  2. Sunday, 21 Feb,
IU fans at USD got an unexpected treat: a win over a very good, ranked USD team. Great hitting, fielding, and pitching (starting middle relief, and the "Q" closed the door with a 3-2 strikeout on the ever-dangerous Brian Haar).

While I know some out there may have been expecting more during this series, this young team proved that they do have what it takes to compete. USD is no slouch. They have excellent pitching, they don't make mistakes, and 1 through 10 can hurt you. The boys should be proud, and I know they are now going to enjoy the long trip back to IU with a smile on their face.

    GO HOOSIERS!!!

p.s. there was allot of local IU support and I was really impressed with all the parents that took the time to fly out here to ("sunny") San Diego to support the Hoosiers. A SPECIAL thanks to the Sabourin's and Leininger's for that great meal on Friday after the game!!

  3. Still underacheived and killed themselves at points. Had Monar and Igel pitched like they are capable and we started Leienger in the 3rd game we could have easily taken all 4 games. Guess thats baseball. But we are only going to get better.
