It was more of the same for IU as they got another tremendous starting pitching performance (this time from Matt Bashore) and the bats stayed hot as they beat Minnesota 12-3.

Matt Carr only gave up 1 hit in 1.2 innings and struck out 3. This makes me happy with my vote to have him start the 4th game! But should we read anything into the fact that both him and O'Gara have already pitched and Igel has not?
ReplyDeleteI like Igle in the fourth game - But I would have gotten my fourth game pitcher and inning on the hill in the first game - maybe that is what Smith did with Carr and or Ogara...
ReplyDeleteAny chance Eric Arnett gets the start for game 4?
ReplyDeleteIU’s Eric Arnett, with the 91mph indicator on the scoreboard behind him (he would hit 95-96). The high-round draftee-to-be struck out 10 in 7.0 innings of 4-hit work. After the game, IU coach Tracy Smith told him after the game, “Get ready for more work this week, big boy.”

Igel has pitched well as of late, but I don't think he has the stuff YET do start the 4th game. He was be VERY valuable next year, but lets stick with Carr or O'Gara now and use Igel in relief. If we win game 3, there is no way I would start Arnett in game 4 but we will have to wait and see how he feels. I think we should show some confidence in other guys that have stepped us as of late but it will be hard to deny Arnett the ball if he feels fine.
